I wish to thank the members that responded to my website to let me know that they have been sickened after eating lunch or dinner at BKYC recently and for your support.

Marsha Woerner, Let's not forget Ashley Southwick. Ashley came to you numerous times for help, because Rodger Foran was sexually harassing her. YOU DID NOTHING TO HELP THIS YOUNG GIRL! What happened next? Rodger caught Ashley in the walk-in cooler and exposed his erect penis as stated in court documents ( CASE # 2015 CA 000441 NC ). Ashley left the property immediately and quit. Court documents further show how Ashley was sexually assaulted numerous times.
Marsha should have been FIRED years ago. Ask yourself, is this a Club you really want to be associated with? If you're a member, are you really proud to be associated with this club? If you are, shame on you.
Think about joining The Sarasota Yacht Club or The Field Club, they are both wonderful, clean, healthy, honest and beautiful clubs to join. Visit both of these Clubs and you'll see for yourself the difference.

Ask the past members that quit BKYC why they left. They know BKYC mistreated their employees. BKYC are nothing but a bunch of DISHONEST, LYING, RACIST THIEVES that allows sexual harassment to go on.
Bird Key Yacht Club could easily solve all this bad publicity by them just paying for my tools they stole from me, giving me my severance package they promised me and I would have just dropped the lawsuit and closed this website, so simple! I will keep telling my true story. This will not go away by them bullying me. UPDATE.... BKYC did offer me compensation for my tools, but give me a W-2 and or a 1099 . W-2 is for services performed by an employee and was paid. A 1099 is for subcontracting work. My tools were stolen from me and that compensation for my tools do not meet the W-2 requirement or a 1099. BKYC and Marsha need to read the tax law.
I WILL NOT, I repeat, I WILL NOT accept a W-2 or a 1099 for compensation of the tools they stole from me. Get it out of your head Marsha. Get off your high horse already. First of all I paid taxes on those tools already and not paying taxes again. Second, it's been over 6 years now you have my tools and using them so I believe you owe me more compensation now. The price is going up and more bad publicity BKYC.
All photos you see on this website show how GM Robert Brown operated Bird Key Yacht Club (BKYC). You will see photos of the filthy conditions under his management. BKYC never had these problems under the direction of GM Robert Edwards.
I alerted GM Robert Brown of these conditions, but soon found myself being retaliated against and the harassment started. All of a sudden I was a terrible employee. Between GM Robert Brown and Marsha Woerner, they trumped up enough lies to fire me. GM Robert Brown took no action at all in resolving all of the issues listed below at BKYC.
GM Robert Brown and Marsha Woerner Controller/Business Manager both told me after the new insurance provider meeting that, I was costing BKYC higher premiums and raising the premiums of all employees due to my health issues. I was 60 years old at that time.
After being fired by GM Robert Brown, he was forced to fire his "Best Friend" *Wink Wink* Angella Ferriera. Both BKYC members and staff despised her.
After being fired and filing this lawsuit against BKYC/Robert Brown, they have been coming up with a lot of negative accusations against me. They think because they have endless supply of money coming in from Wealthy Yacht Club Members that they can say and do whatever they want. Guess what? I'm not going anywhere..... What's Right is Right and What's Wrong is Wrong!
AGE DISCRIMINATION, HEALTH DISCRIMINATION, RETALIATION, STEALING OF PERSONAL PROPERTY (MY TOOLS) and lets not forget my Marine Radio...... Marsha Woerner! YOU and ROBERT BROWN are both THIEVES, LIARS and you're RACIST.
Marsha, if you would have just given me my tools, severance package and radio to start with instead of acting like a big shot Queen of BKYC, this wouldn't have gotten this far. I hope the Officers and the Committees are happy with the way you handled this.
GM Robert Brown was soon let go since BKYC didn't renew his contract. One would guess he didn't do his job correctly and we all believe he brought the club down. The members expressed to me that BKYC went downhill after the firing of GM Robert Edwards and the hiring GM Robert Brown. As the books will show, BKYC suffered a great loss of members since this transition.
Anyone that's interested in joining a Yacht Club really should look at The Sarasota Yacht Club or The Field Club, both of those clubs are so beautiful and have outstanding management and staff. I know quite a few members that are so happy they made the change. Bird Key Yacht Club has lost so many members because of the derelict management that they joined The Sarasota Yacht Club or The Field Club.
Now for the mold problem that BKYC had when I was employed with them and probably still has. Well, I have been getting reports back that the place smells like mold again. The reason is because when I found the mold, I hired a company to come in, do an air sample which they found mold in the air and building. They soon set up containment shield. Before they could start the removal, Brian, the new member that talked his way to the Board Members in taking over the club, removed my company I hired and replaced them with his company. The reason is that he gets kickbacks every time he uses them as for the other companies that he uses.
That company put up their containment shield and within that containment they had these large fans blowing to dry up the wet ceiling and walls. That containment shield fell exposing the mold to the rest of the building. Those fans blew the mold all over the club contaminating every room. I brought this up to the management and I was told to let them do their job. Well that company did a really shitty job, and they just mostly covered over the mold. Well now because of their shitty work, the building smells of mold again. I would be concerned if you have health issues breathing mold.
If you became sick after eating at BKYC please contact me. I'm sure someone had to have gotten sick from this unsanitary meat slicer or the ice cream machine.

I took a couple photos of the meat slicer on different days. I alerted GM Robert Brown of the unsanitary condition of that meat slicer which hasn't been cleaned for days. GM Robert Brown got angry with me and brushed me off. My first priority has always been to protect the members (mostly elderly) from getting sick, but I was reprimanded for doing so . I wonder how many people got sick over unsanitary meat slicer. Just look at the dried food on the blade! You need to clean Meat Slicers at a minimum four hours to prevent the harmful listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
This freezer cylinder from the ice cream machine was left in this unsanitary condition with probably Listeria growing for well over a week. I alerted GM Robert Brown but once again he did nothing to stop this from happening. GM Robert Brown never instructed the kitchen staff to properly clean and sanitize this ice cream machine. This ice cream machine should be cleaned and sanitized daily after use. GM Robert Brown took no action at all.

Records will show that I purchased a Sanitizer called "Super Rinse Q" for BKYC. Installed was a automatic mixer for this sanitizer to simplify mixing for all to use. The automatic mixer provided proper dilution to make it easy for the kitchen and dinning room staff to put in spray bottles. This automatic chemical mixer was mounted on the wall next to the ice cream machine. This made it so much easier to wash and sanitize the ice cream machine, but do you think they used it? Look at the photos!
Super Rinse Q is a Sanitizer, Disinfectant, Virucide, Fungicide, Deodorizer. Super Rinse Q is for Home, Hospital, Institutional and Industrial use. For Farm, School Dairy, Restaurant, Food Handling and Processing areas, Bar and Institutional Kitchen use. An effective sanitizer for use on food contact surfaces. For use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants.
BKYC was closed every Tuesday. I would fill a large hand held sprayer and go through the whole club spraying tables, chairs, bar, doors and handles, bathrooms, hand rails, gym equipment and anything exposed to people. I was never instructed to do this by anyone. It was common sense to sanitize everything to protect the staff and members.
I asked GM Robert Brown to please instruct the kitchen and GM Robert Brown's "Close Friend" *Wink Wink* Angella Ferriera to have their staff use this sanitizer. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN! GM Robert Brown took no action at all.

One of the jokes floating around the Club was that nobody saw GM Robert Brown until it was time for lunch. He managed to finally come out of his office to grab a plate of food from the kitchen and would return to his office once again. LOL, It was true.
STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT PUBLIC POOL AND BATHING PLACE INSPECTION REPORT. ATTENTION! Swimming Pool Violations INSPECTION DATE: 10/21/2021
6 VIOLATIONS: BKYC NOT IN COMPLIANCE ONCE AGAIN. On 02/07/2020 they were violation #1. Water Clarity/Algae Control. Black algae has spread throughout the pool.
CODE REFERENCE: Pool Appearance/Algae/Clarity. 64E-9.004(1)(c) & (3); 64E-9.017(1)(c). The pool shall be free from floating debris, sediment, dirt, algae. The main drain shall be visible.
Violation #18. Certification unable to access. CODE REFERENCE: Lifeguard/Instructor/Pool Technician Certification. 64E-9.008(2); 64E-9.018. If Life guards or swimming instructors are provided, they must be certified by the American Red Cross, YMCA, or other nationally recognized aquatic training program. Swimming instructors must also be first aid and CPR certified; and swimming instructors of developmentally disabled students must also be certified in accordance with section 514.072, F.S. Proof of certification is required at the pool site. Unless exempt under section 514.075, F.S., pool service technicians shall be certified under a DOH approved course.
VIOLATION #44. Maintenance Log. Unable to locate. CODE REFERENCE: Maintenance Log. 64E-9.004(10). Daily record must be kept for pH and disinfect residual tested each day the pool is open for use, and weekly for Cyanuric Acid.

BKYC security camera recorded Angella Ferriera marrying bottles at the bar. One of the problems with this is that why so many open bottles at the bar and only one bartender and one station? I believe these open wine bottles came off of tables, if they had any left over in the bottle it was brought back to the bar and married all together. I brought this to GM Robert Browns attention. GM Robert Brown was upset because I pointed out that liquor or wine should not be married to other open bottles. It's against the law!
I walked in on Angella Ferriera marrying liquor bottles prior to having a security camera installed. It's unfortunate the security camera wasn't installed at that time. Refilling liquor bottles is a violation of Federal Law under 26 U.S. Code 5301, specifically in subsection c.

Blocking electrical panels that house circuit breakers, as shown here, is a violation of both Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes.
When an employee receives a shock from an electrical circuit or appliance in the workplace, shutting off the source of power may be the only safe method of preventing the individual from contacting the electric source. Electrical panels contain circuit breakers that are designed to trip and stop the flow of current to specific circuits and appliances.
Easy access to electrical panels is essential for the protection of employees in the workplace, and panels should never be blocked or inaccessible. To promptly respond to an emergency, it is also critical that circuit breakers are clearly labeled with accurate and up-to-date directories.
The OSHA standard (29 CFR 1910.303 (g)) requires sufficient access and working space around all equipment serving 600 volts or less. For equipment serving between 120 volts and 250 volts, the regulations require a minimum of three feet of clearance. The width of the working space in front shall be 30 inches minimum or width of the equipment.
GM Robert Brown refused to have Angella keep it clear. The Electrical Panel is behind the green ladder. The computer controller for the 30 ton A/C unit, seen in the middle of photo, is around the corner to the right on the wall. You could never get to that controller as you can see.

It was not GM Robert Brown or Angella Ferriera to be cited for these Code Violations. I, Tom Strauss, was the one to be cited from the City Fire Inspectors.

Another gross and unsanitary practice that I witnessed from day to day was the dinning room staff scooping up ice from the ice machine bin. The ice scoop used are plastic containers without handles and sometimes plastic water pitcher, both of which allowed their hands to touch the ice, contaminating the ice while filling the large plastic containers. Next, they filled the plastic containers with water for the dinning room from the little sink that is next to the ice machine, this sink is gross from everything being washed in it. This isn't the real unsanitary part yet.
These large containers were kept behind the bar in their work area filled with ice water. When they needed a pitcher of water for a table, they would scoop out the water with the plastic water pitcher and their hands would go into the water contaminating it. Also, the plastic water pitcher was always being set on dirty tables and behind the bar area with dirty dishes.
That dirty bottom of the water pitcher, now contaminated with who knows what, goes back in the drinking water container to fill it for the next table. Not only the dirty water pitcher, but the servers hand just went under the water, washing it each time. I will purchase an identical water pitcher and container and post these photos at a later date.
I guess this was one way to keep your hands clean..... This was under the management of GM Robert Brown and his "Close Friend" *Wink Wink* Angella Ferriera, the dinning room manager. I also brought this to GM Robert Browns attention and same result, he walked away with that disgusted look again.

GM Robert Brown would not put a stop to this eyesore in front of my office and make the employees pick up their cigarette butts. I had to clean it myself. I don't smoke. GM Robert Brown took no action at all.

I explained to GM Robert Brown that I have yachts to help leave the marina and some arriving. I would have to groom the tennis courts for 8 am play, meet the ground maintenance crew at the same time early morning. It was nearly impossible to do all this time frame. GM Robert Brown didn't care. GM Robert Brown took no action at all.

This is the back of the rental truck that the kitchen and dinning staff use for offsite dinner parties. They left this mess for me and my staff to clean. GM Robert Brown saw this mess, he just walked away for me to take care of the mess and not holding anyone accountable.

This was the top of my desk in the Dock Master's office. I had asked GM Robert Brown to please purchase another desk, he walked away. A week later he purchased a new desk for Angella Ferriera that I was ordered to put together for her.
All members with yachts from BKYC and other clubs would always come to my office. Many BKYC members without yachts would also come inside my office. It was pretty embarrassing.
This is one of the actions that GM Robert Brown did to me in retaliation for exposing the violations and incompetence of him being the GM.
Angella Ferriera allowed her crew to stack $350 a piece chairs on top of each other, ruining the finish. Angella Ferriera refused to stop this practice. GM Robert Brown was angry with me for bringing it to his attention and would not put a stop to how the chairs were being placed.
According GM Robert Brown, his "Close Friend" *Wink Wink* Angella Ferriera could do no wrong.

This photo from Har-Tru tennis court #3 was too wet to play on. I closed the courts, but a few members complained to GM Robert Brown, so he reopened them. When the courts are wet, the players cause damage to the wet courts and requires hours of labor to repair the damage.
It is also very dangerous for the members to play on wet, muddy and slippery courts. There was a member who did injure her wrist from slipping and falling on the court in these conditions. She wore a wrist brace for quite some time.
This Har-Tru tennis court was damaged so bad after their play, that it took hours to repair the damage. All 3 Tennis Courts were damaged.

This is the now EX GM Robert Brown from Bird Key Yacht Club. He is no longer GM. It appears his contract wasn't renewed. I take it they weren't pleased with the way he ran the club.
Robert Brown went on to River Strand and that appears to have lasted only a year. I just found out he's now working at Hideaway Country Club in Ft. Myers.
With EX GM Robert Brown's past employment history, it sure looks like it keeps repeating itself. We will see how long he will last at Hideaway Country Club.

This Standard Horizon HX851 Floating Marine VHF Transceiver with GPS. I purchased this radio with my own money. At that time, GM Robert Edwards told me he would pay for my radio along with the radio that was purchased for BKYC and paid by BKYC. I explained to GM Robert Edwards that I wanted to pay for the one radio out of my own pocket, which I did, so I would be the only person using the radio and not sharing with other employees.
After I was fired and escorted off the property, I had to leave all my tools and my VHF Marine Radio.
Soon after being fired from BKYC, I immediately wound up in the emergency room with heart issues, which they implanted a pacemaker. This was brought on from the stress of being fired, embarrassment of being escorted off of the property, and not having my tools for me to find another job. Soon after, I was placed on disability because the added stress placed on my heart. A Pacemaker was implanted July 12, 2016
Immediately after I was released from the hospital, Marsha Woerner, on September 23, 2016 @ 7:35 pm, sent me a text threatening to call the police on me and file a theft report for the chain saw I still had.
At 7:36 pm I responded with "They still have a lot of my tools they need to give back".
At 7:37 pm Marsha Woerner responded "Ok call, so we can work all this out".
At 7:37 pm I sent another text to Marsha Woerner saying " My marine radio, my concrete drill, my pipe bender".
At 7:38 pm I sent another text to Marsha Woerner saying "My personal documents left on my desk".
At 7:38 pm Marsha Woerner sent a text saying " I have to charge my phone but send me info and I will forward to Mr. B.
It goes on about GM Robert Brown had promised me a severance package that I never received. I will go into further detail about that later on.
Marsha Woerner also told me to prove that this Marine Radio is mine. Well, seeing that Marsha Woerner is supposed to be an excellent accountant, she should have the copy of the check and receipt for both Marine Radios. She can't! Marsha Woerner will only be able to produce records for 1 Marine Radio that was paid by BKYC. These Marine Radios were purchased at West Marine in Sarasota. It's sad that Marsha Woerner will stoop this low to be dishonest and lie about my personal Marine Radio that I paid roughly $200.00 out of my own pocket.
PLEASE MARSHA WOERNER, SHOW THE PROOF AND PROVE ME WRONG! PRODUCE THE RECEIPT FOR THE SECOND MARINE RADIO MARSHA, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A WONDERFUL ACCOUNTANT KEEPING ALL RECORDS.... LOL. YOU CAN'T! BKYC, GM Robert Brown and Marsha Woerner refused to return my personal tools and my marine radio just to be deceitful and further injure me. THIEVES!
A multi-million dollar club has to stoop so low to steal my personal tools? Nothing but THIEVES!
Is this really the Yacht Club you would want to be a member of and that you could be proud of?
These are the screenshots of texts between Marsha Woerner and I on September 23, 2016.
"They still have a lot of my tools they need to give back" and "My marine radio, my concrete drill, my pipe bender", and it goes on to another screenshot. Now, that's 3 years and 5 months ago when I asked for my personal property. They sure wanted the laptop back, which I did return or else they would call the police.... Big Shot BKYC bullying me and stealing my personal property. They think they can get away with stealing from the little man. BUNCH OF THIEVES!
This screenshot is continued from the previous screenshot. This one shows me telling Marsha Woerner that they still had "My personal documents left on my desk, Jay (employee working under myself at the time) knows all that is mine. I also said "Mr. B promised a severance package that I did not get". I also stated "I have a recording of that (which I thought I pushed the record button on my phone, but evidently I didn't. I was so nervous with GM Robert Brown kicking me off the property and in my face I didn't get my recording.
This screenshot is continued from the previous screenshot. This one shows me telling Marsha Woerner that GM Robert Brown lied to me about giving me a severance package. GM Robert Brown told me 2 weeks for every year. I was there over 7 years and owed at least 14 weeks in severance pay.
Above was my good friend Jack. I met Jack about 10 years ago when he worked as bartender at Acapulco Mexican restaurant. A few years later, he came to work at BKYC as a bartender/server. Everything was great with Jack until they fired the GM at that time, which was Robert Edwards (Rob).
Everyone at BKYC which included the employees club members loved Jack. He was such a selfless person, caring for everyone he met. After the firing GM Robert Edwards and the hiring GM Robert Brown, which in turn hired his "Best Friend" *Wink Wink* Angella Ferriera. It all went downhill for Jack. Angella Ferriera was on Jack's back for every little thing that was so trivial. Angella and Brown was so racist towards Jack and also Friengilla " Frenchie".
Jack and I would meet for a drink and/or lunch pretty often. Jack confided in me the way Angella Ferriera had been treating him. He stated to me that it was keeping him awake at night because of the stress of her treatment towards him. Jack expressed to me that he didn't know why Angella Ferriera disliked like him so much. Jack said he figured she was trying to get him to quit. Jack held on to his job until he had a fatal heart attack. Most of the waitstaff and I believe it was caused by the added stress that Angella Ferriera subjected him to on a daily basis.
If you can make your employee quit rather then firing them, the employer "BKYC" wouldn't have to pay unemployment benefits.
If you look at the number of employees that were fired (who were also African American), just when GM Robert Brown and his "Best Friend" *Wink Wink* Angella Ferriera was hired, that the number comes to 3 African Americans fired and 1 African American gone from a fatal heart attack which was possibly caused by the stress Angella Ferriera subjected him to. We will never know for sure. Also, you have 1 Asian, 1 Hispanic and 4 Whites fired with 2 Whites resigning. All under the Reign of Power of GM Robert Brown.
This is the surface of my desk. I had asked GM Robert Brown to please purchase another desk for the office, GM Robert Brown just walked away with the look of F**K YOU! This desk was so embarrassing to have members enter my office, plus boaters from other clubs around the State of Florida that was FCYC members (Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, INC.) visiting BKYC.
Roughly 2 weeks later GM Robert Brown called on my office phone and told me to assemble Angella Ferriera's new desk. This was meant to be a slap in the face. I never received a new desk.
This kind of treatment is what I faced every day. GM Robert Brown was really "Two Faced". GM Robert Brown was very nasty to my face and caused me so much stress, but he would tell the Commodore I was doing a great job? See below one of the emails I received.
